Clothes

Fashion is the slave of sound. To a musician, clothes do not make the man; they make the sound. Appearance is meaningless. We dress for silence, not sight. If you turn the volume up, you can hear the rustling of sleeves, cuffs, collars, the swish of fabric, the impasse of buttons. So one must avoid burlap sacks, stuffed shirts, rings, woolens, military jackets, jodhpurs, in favor of silks, velvets, and those wonderful artificial weaves where fictional fibers turn fabric to fact.
